THE ROTIMATIC STORY
The Origin
It all began in the year 2008. Zimplistic’s founder, Pranoti was a 24-year-old, full-time mechanical and product design engineer shattering the glass ceiling. With the job came long working hours and no time to prepare homecooked meal for her family. Frozen rotis gave no control over the ingredients and making rotis took time and skill from kneading to puffing it to perfection.
This juncture made her see the women she grew up with in a new light, who labour away in the kitchen to bring fresh rotis right off the pan to the table. As a woman in engineering, she saw an opportunity to change this relatable narrative in the kitchen. Her 21st century household had a machine to wash clothes, make coffee, wash dishes, but none to make rotis, which is a staple for over 3 billion people. This was the Eureka moment that paved the way for the world’s first roti-making machine!
Bringing Rotimatic to life was not an overnight success. It all first started with an idea of a fully automatic flatbread making robot. While Pranoti modelled it on her computer and took a stop at the hardware shops, Rishi Israni, co-founder of Zimplistc, and Pranoti’s husband, entered the picture and wrote the first software for the machine. Together, Rotimatic became their brainchild after 8 years of intense R&D with nothing but a human’s intuition and tactical senses as the reference.
From the first sketch to manufacturing at scale, it was a decade long journey fueled by creative application, engineering dexterity, production intricacies and an eye set towards a smarter and healthier future. Cut to 2018, crafted with 15 sensors and 10 motors, enabled by AI and IoT, a fully-automatic, one-of-a-kind roti-making robot, Rotimatic, was presented to the world. Today, 100, 000+ homes across the 18+ countries are relishing fresh flatbreads made from the state-of-the-art Rotimatic! The rest is future.
